80% of Riga residents satisfied with availability of public transport in the city
A majority of Riga residents are satisfied with the availability of public transport and the quality of public transport services in the city, which is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by SKDS in the autumn of 2015. Overall, 80% of Riga residents are satisfied with the availability of public transport (29% are very satisfied, and 51% are rather satisfied), and 78% are generally satisfied with the quality of the public transport services (20% are very satisfied, and 58% are rather satisfied).
Overall, Riga residents evaluate public transport at 7.4 (on a 10-point scale, where 1 means “very bad” and 10 means “excellent”). In 2013 the evaluation was slightly higher – 7.7, yet in 2011 it was equal to this year’s evaluation – also 7.4.
When evaluating various aspects of public transport, a majority of the respondents (89%) is satisfied with the availability of information about public transport traffic. 80% are satisfied with the public transport network and planning. 79% are satisfied with cleanness in public transport, and 78% with its comfort level. 72% are satisfied with the available range of tickets, and 70% with the possibilities of buying e-tickets.
If we compare public transport usage habits on working days, then the share of those who use a bus, a tram and/or a trolleybus is relatively constant – 93% in 2011, 2013 and 92% in 2015. If we compare the public transport usage habits on Saturdays and Sundays, then we can see that the share of those who use a bus, a tram and/or a trolleybus has slightly decreased. In 2011 they were 64%, in 2013 – 67%, and in 2015 – 61%.
As regards the number of trips per day, a majority of polled Riga residents (58%) usually make 2 trips daily. The average number of trips per working day is 2.9, and here we can see a growing trend: in 2011 it was 2.7, and in 2013 – 2.8.
“Rīgas satiksme” orders a customer satisfaction survey once in two years to get to know the wishes of clients and their satisfaction level, as well as to improve the quality of its services. In September and October this year the survey was conducted by market and public opinion research centre SKDS.
